After the Show

The Art Crazy show was definitely a learning experience. I wanted to get my art out there this year and I am doing just that.

Two goals met: Show art in Gallery-CHECK!
Have art sell-CHECK!

(Next time I will need to remember to ask the universe for ME to make money on my art! )

But it was for a good cause and I learned a lot...

I made it to the wall!
They sold in the first hour!

Me all dolled up for the event! (Blond locks back too!)

My Favorite Spring Dress and my Red shoes!

My collages were marked low :(

But at least someone bought a couple of them (I noticed they were gone later)
It was a fun evening. I learned to matte and frame my pics next time for donations to Art Shows or if I want them to sell. I learned I will most likely only buy a ticket to the first show not both if I go next year. I learned what people are buying and what they are not (won't donate collages next year). I learned the value of my art as seen by others.

I had an enjoyable time. I got my picture taken with my art. My art got on the wall. It sold within the first hour. It was a fun evening.

Best treat of all....?

When I got home there was a bouquet of wonderful flowers for me as a congratulatory gift !! Aren't they gorgeous?!? A great evening indeed!

Things I have been doing lately...

Things I have been doing lately...

I haven't been able to do my art like I wanted to but I did get a few NEW things done lately.

Rearranged my Studio
Put some pictures up on the wall again...the even better thing..they were MY own!!

Bikini Babe Inking for client
Femme Face 1 inking for a client
Then on Thursday is the Art Crazy Art Show! I just purchased my tickets today (I decided to go to both shows by myself)

http://art-a-day-keeps-the-crazies-away.blogspot.com/2012/04/getting-ready-for-show.html

Now to decide what to wear!

Since I moved my desk upstairs I think it will help me as well. The ex used to have his art table near his computer and since that worked for him, I thought I would try it. So far so good. Next big purchase I need though is a 12x18 flatbed scanner...or something close to that. I hate having to take my pictures to Kinkos, scan them, put them on a drive them take them home...sigh. So irritating.

But it might be worthy soon...because (drum roll please)...it looks like I will be accepted to be at Ankeny Unplugged to have a booth for Every Saturday in June!!

www.ankenyunplugged.com

So I will need to be making prints anyway to sell and I can't make prints at home so who knows.

I want to get back to a sketch a day and my goal of 50 Faces and 50 Figures so maybe this will help. Plus I have been really out of touch with my SOAR journal and need to do that. I am still blown away at my Art abilities lately and this wonderful gift of talent I have been able to grow into. Thanks for all my encouragers...you know who you are.

Getting ready for the Show

Amazing and terrific news! If you follow my posts you know that earlier in the year I said a few goals of mine for my art was

  • To show in a Gallery
  • To have my Art sell
Well, my lovelies, this dream is about to happen and I couldn't be more excited (well I probably could but I don't think you could handle it!)I heard about Art Crazy from the Des Moines Art Center and saw they were looking for possible submissions from Artists. I contacted the coordinator and she emailed me back to discuss with me submissions.

So here are the pieces I am going to be submitting for the show

I was going to use this but I liked it so much I am keeping it!

I was told this has a Frida Kahlo look...I had to look it up but now I know her work, I agree!

Then here are the Collage pieces I am submitting as well...

Most of you have seen these pieces before since I did them last year. I didn't get a chance to sell them on Etsy and I would rather help a good cause then worry about the profit. I am so excited to have my work in a real live Art Gallery more than anything else!!
Thank you to those who always support my art and for those in my life who have inspired and encouraged me to be a better artist. Thank you also to the other amazing artists I follow that inspire me by your work and efforts every day! Thank you especially to those who believed in me year after year and kept pushing me forward to not only be  a better artist, but to be able to take this amazing leap in my life (You know who you are).
Please come enjoy the show and support me if you are in the Des Moines area or plan to be.

Art Therapy

Last year I started the year with Soul Restoration. It was the first time I really ever thought about Healing through Art. Once the course was over I continued as suggested until the Soul Restoration 2 course started. I learned great things but mostly was Art based.

I made books and collages and journals galore...now here it is again the words to use Art through healing. I like how she says at the end you don't have to be an "Artist" just do whatever is artistic for you.

This is from my recent Step to Heal course with Amelie Chance

Art therapy has been empirically studied by hundreds of different researchers to effectively help people overcome past trauma.

The results of art therapy on PTSD patients:
  • Art helps process difficult emotions without the short-term negative side effects of talk therapy
  • Art combines a pleasurable activity with processing of past trauma
  • Art helps re-consolidate disjointed memories from a past event to provide coherence and closure
  • Art helps to express events that are hard to express in words alone
  • Art has healing power
It does not matter if you cannot draw or paint. It makes no difference if you feel you are not creative. The creation of art can facilitate your healing.
I recently was diagnosed with PTSD because of things that have happened in my past to me and around me. As well, a recent  loss of a relationship sent me into overdrive and I sought professional help to learn of this diagnosis. As I said in a comment below that most people think PTSD only is for those who have served in the military. Let me share with you what I learned so you understand this part.

"Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder which is triggered by a traumatic event in your life. There is no absolute list of traumatic events that can and cannot cause PTSD. Therefore, a traumatic breakup, events from your past, rape, molestation, loss of a child, loss of a loved one, and a series of all these events together after a period of time could cause PTSD.  PTSD causes symptoms that include unwanted flashbacks of the event in question, anxiety, difficulty sleeping, and nightmares. The symptoms must last longer than 30 days after the event for it to be called PTSD. The symptoms of PTSD and other anxiety disorders are sometimes difficult to distinguish. In addition, PTSD overlaps with many other symptoms of depression. In many cases, people with the diagnosis of PTSD also have diagnoses of depression. Traumatic breakups almost always cause disturbances in mood that can look like depression, anxiety, PTSD or other mental problems. If your breakup happened very recently, then you may be experiencing normal human emotions associated with the event."

Last year was the beginning of me releasing my past and the hurts and hangups that were keeping me from moving on. I now have learned and accepted that I am not the Broke girl anymore, I am not the Target, I am not the victim. I am whole, complete and wonderful WITH all my flaws because they have made me who I am today.

I wanted to share with your my progression from last year and the art I made while "Healing"...

The first set is from Brave Girls Club Soul Restoration Courses...

Truth book

Morning Pages Journal

Collaging

Special Aprons

Truth Holder

I went on to take other art courses...

I made Value cards on a key ring

Summer of Color class

In the Sun Art Journal

Bracelets

Summer Wish Lists

Bags

Books for friends

Declaration of You

I challenged my artwork

Learned to draw owls and new things

Fleece Shawls

Art through decorating

Challenged myself to do a Halloween print

Made fun paper bag owls

Toilet Paper People

and even an Advent

This year I decided to stop swallowing whole the idea that I could nto draw, that I could not draw people and that I could not draw faces...when given the time to hone my skills, the results are now staggering to even or especially me.

Remember the mind can play tricks on you and the last image is the truest. Just go, do, be. Do any form of art that moves you. Allow it to Heal you. Allow it to be a part of you. Don't swallow whole that you a re not Creative. You are. As you see I did many things in a form of "ART". You can too.

Healing through Art has been an eye opener for me in more ways than one and even more so astounding lately.  You just do whatever Artistic thing you need to do to help you heal and I guarantee you will start feeling better in no time...

I am...and you can too.

Air Kisses,

Trisha
