Native American Indian Woman

I did this for Ben's Dad for a father Day gift. I called and was told he really liked Native American things and that he had a picture of a Medicine Woman he really liked. I thought since he liked that picture I might be able to incorporate my 50-50 faces into something for him and found a reference photo of an Indian Woman facing sideways kinda like this. I don't have many side faces so I thought this would make a nice addition. Then I have been watching my Copics video a lot lately and learning how to use and shade

The end result? A really nice Native American Indian inked and Copic Colored piece that I will be scanning and sending off!

I am really proud of this piece, can you tell???

Rainbow Sherbert Fairy

This is my Rainbow Sherbert Fairy I did for my Summer of Color: Ice Cream Inspiration Challenge. Copic Colored, 11x17 Strathmore 60lb Paper

It is so frustrating because I struggle so much with faces when I am doing figures because the faces are smaller. Sometimes they turn out fine, other times I want to shoot myself. I don't like the eyes on this one very much. (but aren't all artists picky about their work?)

When I have a FULL face I am fine, but when I am trying to do a figure, I don't know, it is really a struggle. That is why I have more Faces done and less figures. I need to do it the other way around though I know.

Do the thing that challenges you most, so you hone your craft and get better at it. So maybe I will do a figure for each of my Summer of Color Challenge. Not sure but it is an idea.

The colors we were given this week were Rainbow Sherbert which is a mix of Pink, Orange and touch of white. We are allowed to use other colors but I try very hard to stay true to the color given.

I am trying to add more backgrounds so I added the little half circle at the top and I saw an artist at the ComicCon have a design upside down like that on the inside and thought it looked pretty cool.

The little houses where ornaments from my backyard I thought might make a nice addition. Don't they look like little fairy homes. I think so. I am sure fairies live there! :)



Then I am a heart and tiny flower junkie I think because if you start looking back at my work I put them in EVERYTHING!! LOL.

Also I seem to be tattooing all my ladies lately. I don't want to get a real tat on me so I tattoo them I guess! :)

Art Takes Times Square scoured the globe for today's greatest creative talents to identify one artist whose work will be displayed in a massive exhibition on the glittering screens of Times Square. Tens of thousands of artists joined this international phenomenon, contributing works that received over 2 million page views through the course of the competition.

On Monday June 18th, thousands of artists (including YOU) will be featured and one Grand Prize winner will be revealed at the Art Takes Times Square billboard premiere.

Working in concert with the Times Square Alliance and Chashama, Artists Wanted has produced this event which celebrates art in Times Square and the launch of See.Me - a new website connecting artists, photographers, designers, filmmakers and musicians to an international audience. With Art Takes Times Square, several of the most iconic video signs in Times Square will be made into an immense display of art and is emblematic of the ambitious projects to come from this new artist platform: See.Me.

Summer Manifesto 2012

One of the  blogs I follow gave this idea from Ali Edwards for a Summer Maniefsto and I did something similar to this from Green Mama and Papa last year so I thought I would do something of the like again. I wrote down on a separate sheet of paper what I would want as my Summer Manifesto and then tried to do this as a Wordle. But  as a wordle it was too jumbled so I though ok I will collage it. Then as I was standing there thinking about how to do it, I thought to my self

"Trisha, you are over thinking this. IT is mean to be light, airy and simple."

So I went back upstairs and just laid all of my thoughts into Microsoft Word and added some kewl colors and fonts and tada here it is. I also included a picture of what my Manifesto was from last year.

Artist Comparisions

As artist whether meaning to or not art influences us.

I think there are times the world around us might spark a thought in mind and we capture that in our minds.

Then I think we may develop a style that we didn't even know we were developing like another artist and out style might be compared to them. To some this is an honor. To some this is an insult. To some this scares the dickens out of them.

To me...all three.

The point of this is this...

Why do I feel all three?

Well, you see I have drawn  for awhile but I have gone through variations of styles and tried different things. I have copied to try and get used to the way things felt. I have done the tedious hours of drawing only to throw the paper away. I have penciled and inked and colored with Copics. I have had people not support and others support with vast endeavors. I have taken steps back to lets other artist have their chance to take steps forward.

• It is an honor that anyone would think my work resembles anything of anyone else when I have no clue who the people they are even talking about are much less the fact they think it looks like someone famous.
• It is an insult because I don't want anyone thinking I copied them or copied their work or did anything of the sort. Yet I am afraid they think that.
• IT scares me because I think, WOW, they think I have enough talent to be like someone else and I didn't know who that person is they are talking about and that person is famous that means maybe one day I could be a great artist like them... HOLY SHIT!...then my knees start shaking...lol...

 In the movie Pretty Woman at the beginning there is a man hollering out

"What's you dream? Hey you What's your dream"

and I keep thinking about that and thinking

well up until five months and hell maybe five minutes ago...I am not sure I knew...

this "ART THING" as I call it now...is so new, so fresh, so NOT TRISHA....but IS TRISHA...it's so UNFATHOMABLE!!

It's as I call it SURREAL!!

I spent so much time in the last four years allowing someone else to be the artist and all I wanted was to help him reach this artist dream I didn't even THINK about THINKING about IT!!

It isn't really about who I am being compared to or who I will be compared to. It is about comparing myself to myself. It is about honing in on MY art and challenging myself and being ok with MY art and doing it for myself and no one else.

MY 50-50 goal isn't about an achievement or an accomplishment to get to the top of something. It is for me so make my craft better.

That is my food for thought for today.

So the REAL moral of this story is NOT to compare yourself to anyone else but you. If you are right with, then who cares about the rest.

I am the best Artist I know. You are the best Artist you know too. :)
