Miss Strawberonade Flutterby Fairy!

Drum roll please....brushes and tweaks...here is Miss Strawberonade Flutterby Fairy!

All the sass and toughness as my other fairness but with a hint of sour and sweet of Strawberry and Lemonade!

This week our color for SOC2 was Strawberry Lemonade. On flip side B of my life I watched Digital Dreams by Tam and learned about Brushes. I knew about brushes before but I guess I didn't really understand how to use them until now. Oh wow! Was I hooked. I almost needed a crowbar to pull me away and pry my fingers from the computer. Tam gave us some ideas for where to load brushes and then my art friend Justin sent me a set of brushes. That made me remember the other brushes I had seen out there and well, I went a little overboard with downloading brushes. But then once I started using them, I realized, "Hmm, I don't need to load all these brushes I think. : lol
I don't have the Watermark thing figure out like Justin said, but I did Stamp my art with my Signature, Year and Month like before. I have to remember next time to take off my pencil signature before I start coloring next time. I got too far in and couldn't figure out how to get it off. I tried using the patch tool like Tam showed us, but I failed at that.
Next week the new boyfriend is taking me away to the Amana Colonies for a week so I can relax (been very stressed lately and had some health issues) and enjoy simpler things. So I decided I would take my new Art Case and Copics and do next weeks with Markers since I am new at that too!
Plus it will give me shoulder a chance to heal.
Thank you so much for those who support my art Anita, Kristen, Leslie, Sonia, everyone from CED, Willowing, Goddess Guide, Summer of Color, Be Urself, Brave Girls, Ridler Studios, and everywhere else  you follow me from.
Also a thank you to JC for putting up with me and always supporting me. Without you as my friend and in my corner, I never would have gone this far and seen what I could do. Thanks for the beautiful new Sketchbooks you took the time to make for me, and for being my personal art shopper at Dick Blick until I could pay you back for Art  Tape, Pens, books, etc.
I am also very grateful to Ben, the new boyfriend. Not many boyfriends will put up with you coming home from a day job, barely eating with you and then letting me go sit in my studio for hours nearly every night. It is what I want to do and it makes me happy so he said that makes him happy. Monday, Wednesdays, Fridays and most weekends- Saturday and Sunday are consumed by me doing art things, drawing or Digitally Coloring something, or reading something about art. Even if I am sitting next to him I now have a sketchpad and a book in my hand that teaches me "how to" something artistic and I labor over it intensely to make my art craft better and better. He doesn't really follow my blogs, but nevertheless, I know I am thanking him and it means a lot to me.
To the rest-Hope you enjoy my fairy. I really love the comments. Especially the ones about my fairies being tough. Those have really made me smile :) You just  don't even know.....
XOXO

Raspberry Nut Fairy and her Fairy Nuts!

The Summer of Color Challenges Ice Cream Inspirations mixed with learning how to draw Fairies and other mythical creatures and beings  for Willowing has been a bit of a challenge for me but in a good way. I want to drive to be better at my digital art the the color challenge give a focus for what color to draw while the Willowing challenge gives me something to draw. I picked up some Fairies Tarot cards this week for inspiration and we will see if that makes a difference. I realized I lack in backgrounds and I noticed a lot more backgrounds on the cards so I hope to incorporate some of that into my drawings.

This weeks Challegen was Rasberry Nut for SOC2 so here is my Rasberry Nut Fairy and her Fairy Nuts!

My Creative Money Map

Andrea from ABC Creativity has been talking about how to get Creative with Money. Normally I hear anything about Money and become like Kevin from Home Alone with my arms flailing t=in the air screaming and running in to the other room.

But I follow her blog regularly and like listening(reading) what she has to say. I like reading stories about other people and the inner artist in me became inspired.

After I got back from my hiatus in Colorado, in March ( I took a break from life for a few months) , I decided I needed to get my crap together as start paying off some debt. I didn't want to keep living in fear of making money. I am a successful entrepreneur and yet I often feel like I keep myself from making money because I think, "What's the point people I owe debt to are just going to take it." Well, if I pay it, then they can't take it, right? DUH. No brainier one would think. But those debts were large and seemed like I would never pay them off.

With the help of a friend, Andrea and following the advice of other successful people I drew out this Money Map and have start following a better plan to pay off my debts. I do Freelance Contracts and though I may not always have a surplus of funds, right now I have money to pay things so I am going to do what I can to widdle those debts down. The rest of the time I own my own LLC business and the money comes and goes and is not as consistent and when that time rolls back in and will deal with that when it happens.

The way this is set up is like this...

The thing I want are at the Top

Security, Stability, Pleasure.

How to get there is by the upside down Debt tree.

For every debt paid (branch cut) $$ Money flows to other areas of the tree. The center of the tree shows where the money comes from. Income, Deposits, Cash. The branches of the tree are Labeled on the Debt side D1, D2, D3 etc. Then SAvings, Living Expenses, Allowance, and Business.

To the right is Money trapped in jail and it says "Go from this..." "To this" and then Money is free. My Money says "Woo hoo, I'm Free!"

On the bottom is the Road to Financial Freedom and some Orange Cones and writing that says "Beware of road blocks along the way" and then a sign that shows when I have reached my desitination and that is my VISUAL GOAL

Financial Freedom "Where You and Your Money Can Enjoy Life Together!"

So there is my little Creative Money Map...Maybe it will help you along your money journey...

Mint Chip SOC2 Angel_Willowing

This was done for my Summer of Color 2 (SOC2) Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream Inspirations Challenge.

It took me two and a half weeks to do this. It is hand drawn with pencils. Then inked. Then scanned, then brought into Photoshop and digitally colored with a mouse and then added layer upon layer ( I think I counted 27) plus I lumped on into a group, and then added blending highlighters like inner glows and outer glows and drop shadows and global light and more.

After doing that, I took all my extra savings and bought a Bamboo, Wacom Tablet. After my Art show this weekend, I am cracking that baby open and going to play with it.

I am intrigued to see how different that next one will be like!

I am going to be a Featured Artist!!!

I was honored to be asked to be in this show but I did not end up doing this because I had to pya for any tickets that did NOT get sold and at this point I did NOT feel as it would be in my benefit to pay over $200 for tickets and not sell anything.

There I am 5th one over!!! http://www.rawartists.org/desmoines/mixology

Native American Indian Woman

I did this for Ben's Dad for a father Day gift. I called and was told he really liked Native American things and that he had a picture of a Medicine Woman he really liked. I thought since he liked that picture I might be able to incorporate my 50-50 faces into something for him and found a reference photo of an Indian Woman facing sideways kinda like this. I don't have many side faces so I thought this would make a nice addition. Then I have been watching my Copics video a lot lately and learning how to use and shade

The end result? A really nice Native American Indian inked and Copic Colored piece that I will be scanning and sending off!

I am really proud of this piece, can you tell???

Rainbow Sherbert Fairy

This is my Rainbow Sherbert Fairy I did for my Summer of Color: Ice Cream Inspiration Challenge. Copic Colored, 11x17 Strathmore 60lb Paper

It is so frustrating because I struggle so much with faces when I am doing figures because the faces are smaller. Sometimes they turn out fine, other times I want to shoot myself. I don't like the eyes on this one very much. (but aren't all artists picky about their work?)

When I have a FULL face I am fine, but when I am trying to do a figure, I don't know, it is really a struggle. That is why I have more Faces done and less figures. I need to do it the other way around though I know.

Do the thing that challenges you most, so you hone your craft and get better at it. So maybe I will do a figure for each of my Summer of Color Challenge. Not sure but it is an idea.

If you would like to participate in the Summer of Color of fun it is done by my wonderful friend Kristen over at Twinkle Twinkle

Her Facebook Group (I set up for her for last year's challenges -yay!) is over here Summer of Color Facebook

The colors we were given this week were Rainbow Sherbert which is a mix of Pink, Orange and touch of white. We are allowed to use other colors but I try very hard to stay true to the color given.

I am trying to add more backgrounds so I added the little half circle at the top and I saw an artist at the ComicCon have a design upside down like that on the inside and thought it looked pretty cool.

The little houses where ornaments from my backyard I thought might make a nice addition. Don't they look like little fairy homes. I think so. I am sure fairies live there! :)

Then I am a heart and tiny flower junkie I think because if you start looking back at my work I put them in EVERYTHING!! LOL.

Also I seem to be tattooing all my ladies lately. I don't want to get a real tat on me so I tattoo them I guess! :)

Keep watching for more Summer of Color fun!! And if interested I know Kristen would love to have you!!

XOXO
