The Piano Way of Drawing
I know I have shared this quote before but I feel it warrants sharing again
I realized I wasn't keeping up with my art in the fashion of which I would like. I want to keep up with sketching or drawing every day. My goal for 50 faces and 50 figures by the end of December isn't going to be even met or close to it, if I don't keep up. As well, Justin used to remind me of this quote and so intertwined I always think of him when I think of this quote. (funny how life is like that)
When I was in Colorado, I of course, had all the time in the world to really hone in on my drawing. But now that I am back, working on a contract, trying to launch a new website, singing with people, jamming on the weekends with music pals, and dating...well...I have less time.
I met with my Accountability Partner Wednesday and made a new affirmed goal and gave myself no excuses.
I am going to give this another try...Sketch or draw something, anything EVERY DAY! This is a lofty goal for someone like me, but as I said I gave myself no excuses. I put my little art books in a my sketch bag, then in my new purse so I always have a sketchpad with with me like Justin does.
The NO EXCUSES is because I have a special email I can send my art to this blog just by taking a picture and hitting send, so as soon as I sketch or draw something, I will snap it, up then send it over to here.
Also my boss just gave me this scanner and though I still need to get cord for it and make sure it works, it has me in the thought process that if this one doesn't then I need to buy one. It is just one of those mandatory tools I think for an artist. Days of going to Kinkos to get scans or over. Taking a thumb drive to get prints, done fine...but the whole scanning process at Kinko's was not fun at all.
So here is what I did today while sick at home...
This is a Pro Bono commission print I am doing for a friends Church Block Party...
I am going to ink this and color it and then have prints made and give them out for free. Then on the rest of the table I will have my art for sale as well they asked me to bring an easel and do some work while I am there to showcase my art....how kewl is that huh?
(My art is really getting around...nudge nudge...wink wink)
This is some work I did recently last weekend...
Well, there you have it...an update of my work...and more soon to follow.
Keep watching...
XOXO

If I miss a day of practice, I know it. If I miss two days, my manager knows it. If I miss three days, my audience knows it.

After the Show
The Art Crazy show was definitely a learning experience. I wanted to get my art out there this year and I am doing just that.
Two goals met: Show art in Gallery-CHECK!
Have art sell-CHECK!
(Next time I will need to remember to ask the universe for ME to make money on my art! )
But it was for a good cause and I learned a lot...
It was a fun evening. I learned to matte and frame my pics next time for donations to Art Shows or if I want them to sell. I learned I will most likely only buy a ticket to the first show not both if I go next year. I learned what people are buying and what they are not (won't donate collages next year). I learned the value of my art as seen by others.
I had an enjoyable time. I got my picture taken with my art. My art got on the wall. It sold within the first hour. It was a fun evening.
Best treat of all....?
When I got home there was a bouquet of wonderful flowers for me as a congratulatory gift !! Aren't they gorgeous?!? A great evening indeed!

Things I have been doing lately...
Things I have been doing lately...
I haven't been able to do my art like I wanted to but I did get a few NEW things done lately.
Put some pictures up on the wall again...the even better thing..they were MY own!!
Then on Thursday is the Art Crazy Art Show! I just purchased my tickets today (I decided to go to both shows by myself)
http://art-a-day-keeps-the-crazies-away.blogspot.com/2012/04/getting-ready-for-show.html
Now to decide what to wear!
Since I moved my desk upstairs I think it will help me as well. The ex used to have his art table near his computer and since that worked for him, I thought I would try it. So far so good. Next big purchase I need though is a 12x18 flatbed scanner...or something close to that. I hate having to take my pictures to Kinkos, scan them, put them on a drive them take them home...sigh. So irritating.
But it might be worthy soon...because (drum roll please)...it looks like I will be accepted to be at Ankeny Unplugged to have a booth for Every Saturday in June!!

So I will need to be making prints anyway to sell and I can't make prints at home so who knows.
I want to get back to a sketch a day and my goal of 50 Faces and 50 Figures so maybe this will help. Plus I have been really out of touch with my SOAR journal and need to do that. I am still blown away at my Art abilities lately and this wonderful gift of talent I have been able to grow into. Thanks for all my encouragers...you know who you are.

Getting ready for the Show
Amazing and terrific news! If you follow my posts you know that earlier in the year I said a few goals of mine for my art was
So here are the pieces I am going to be submitting for the show
- To show in a Gallery
- To have my Art sell
So here are the pieces I am going to be submitting for the show

| I was going to use this but I liked it so much I am keeping it! |
![]() |
| I was told this has a Frida Kahlo look...I had to look it up but now I know her work, I agree! |
Then here are the Collage pieces I am submitting as well...
Most of you have seen these pieces before since I did them last year. I didn't get a chance to sell them on Etsy and I would rather help a good cause then worry about the profit. I am so excited to have my work in a real live Art Gallery more than anything else!!
Thank you to those who always support my art and for those in my life who have inspired and encouraged me to be a better artist. Thank you also to the other amazing artists I follow that inspire me by your work and efforts every day! Thank you especially to those who believed in me year after year and kept pushing me forward to not only be a better artist, but to be able to take this amazing leap in my life (You know who you are).
Please come enjoy the show and support me if you are in the Des Moines area or plan to be.
